Ken (K.L.) Smith, a proud American and Vietnam War veteran, returned to his Florida home in 1973 after serving with the United States Marine Corps. Drawing on the discipline and skills he learned during his military service, Ken founded K.L. Smith, Inc., a roofing company rooted in integrity and quality in his hometown of Lakeland, Florida.

Driven by a desire to give back to his community, Ken pursued his passion for construction, quickly earning his General Contractor’s License. With a vision to provide high-quality roofing services at fair prices, he built a business that earned a stellar reputation. Today, K.L. Smith, Inc. is recognized as the premier roofing company in Polk County, Florida, a testament to Ken’s commitment to excellence.

Ryan Smith, son of Ken Smith, grew up immersed in the family business, learning the ropes from a young age. Inspired by his father’s unwavering commitment to treating customers with fairness and respect. As a graduate of the University of South Florida, Ryan developed essential life and business skills that shaped his approach to leadership. Working alongside Ken, he played a key role in expanding the company, driven by a shared mission to provide peace of mind to local homeowners.

Today, Ryan manages the business with his lifelong friend James Middleton and the dedicated K.L. Smith team. Proud of the reputation the company has built, he is constantly seeking innovative ways to enhance the customer experience and strengthen the legacy of the family business. In his free time, Ryan enjoys golfing, fishing, and spending quality time with his family.

James Middleton has been a cornerstone of K.L. Smith, Inc. for nearly three decades, bringing unwavering dedication and skill to the team. Growing up, James and Ryan forged a lifelong friendship, strengthened by the close bond between their parents. This connection led James to join Ken’s company at the age of 17, where he honed his trade skills and developed a deep appreciation for hard work. His commitment and expertise culminated in earning his General Contractor’s license, a testament to his professional growth.

A passionate outdoorsman, James finds inspiration in nature through landscaping, fishing, and embracing the great outdoors. This not only enriches his personal life but also fuels his professional drive for excellence at K.L. Smith, Inc. Following K.L. Smith’s commitment to quality, James ensures that every roof replacement delivers peace of mind, allowing customers the ability to pursue their own passions with confidence that their home is protected.

Beyond her professional achievements, Amanda is a devoted wife to her husband, Ryan Smith, and a nurturing mother to their children. 

Amanda’s vibrant spirit truly comes alive in her personal passions. An avid tennis player, she relishes the thrill of the court, constantly honing her skills and embracing the sport’s challenges.Above all, she treasures the precious moments spent with her family and friends, creating lasting memories filled with laughter and love.

Trena Middleton is the dedicated office manager at K.L. Smith Inc., where her passion for business organization and management shines. She joined her husband James Middleton on the K.L. Smith team 7 years ago. An honors graduate of Polk State College, Trena brings expertise and enthusiasm to her role, ensuring the company’s day-to-day operations run seamlessly.  Renowned for her exceptional communication skills, she builds strong relationships with customers, making her an invaluable asset to the team. 

Trena also finds joy outside of work spending time in nature, spending time with her family & capturing moments through photography. A fan of classic cars, Trena enjoys attending local car shows where she showcases her 1971 Chevelle.

Sales Manager

Caleb Middleton, son of James Middleton, is a dedicated sales manager at K.L. Smith Inc., where his expert roofing knowledge sets him apart. Passionate about empowering customers, Caleb takes pride in educating them on the critical importance of selecting a reliable roofing company. Trusted by many, he guides clients through every step of the roof replacement journey, ensuring a seamless experience from start to finish.

Outside of work, Caleb’s adventurous spirit shows through his love for traveling, photography, and four-wheeling. A hands-on enthusiast, he also finds joy in building things and working on motorcycles and cars, blending creativity and craftsmanship in all he does.

Beyond her career, her personal life is centered around her passions for photography, travel, and the great outdoors often joined by her fiancé and their two beloved dogs. She also enjoys baking sour dough bread & spending quality time with her family.

She also enjoys her relaxation time where she’ll often be seen lounging around the office, truly embodying the essence of a lazy shop dog.
